Thumbelina
Once upon a time, there was a kind woman who had no children,
longed for a baby and would often say, “How I would love to have a baby girl,
even a tiny little one." A beautiful fairy heard her wish one day, and
gave her a little seed to plant in a flowerpot. When the seed bloomed into a
tulip, the woman saw a tiny, beautiful girl inside, no bigger than her thumb.
She decided to call her Thumbelina. She was so small that she had a walnut
shell for a bed and used petals as a blanket. Then, an ugly toad fell in love
with Thumbelina.
One night when she was sleeping, he carried her off to his
lily pad in a pond. Thumbelina was very unhappy. A swallow was passing by and
saw how sad she looked, and said, “Come south with me to warmer lands."
Young Thumbelina flew away on the swallow’s back. They flew across the seas and
came to a land of sunshine. The swallow said, " This is my home. You can live
in one of the loveliest and biggest flowers. " When Thumbelina stepped
inside, she found a handsome fairy, as tiny as her, in its heart. He was the
son of the king of flowers and he fell in love with Thumbelina. He asked her to
marry him. So Thumbelina became queen of the flowers and the two lived happily
ever after.
The Legend of Tangkuban Perahu
Once, there was a kingdom in Priangan Land. Lived a happy
family. They were a father in form of dog,his name is Tumang, a mother which
was called is Dayang Sumbi, and a child which was called Sangkuriang.
One day, Dayang Sumbi asked her son to go hunting with his
lovely dog, Tumang. After hunting all day, Sangkuriang began desperate and
worried because he hunted no deer. Then he thought to shot his own dog. Then he
took the dog liver and carried home.
Soon Dayang Sumbi found out that it was not deer lever but
Tumang's, his own dog. So, She was very angry and hit Sangkuriang's head. In
that incident, Sangkuriang got wounded and scar then cast away from their home.
Years go bye, Sangkuriang had travel many places and finally
arrived at a village. He met a beautiful woman and felt in love with her. When
they were discussing their wedding plans, The woman looked at the wound in
Sangkuriang's head. It matched to her son's wound who had left severall years
earlier. Soon she realized that she felt in love with her own son.
She couldn't marry him but how to say it. Then, she found the
way. She needed a lake and a boat for celebrating their wedding day.
Sangkuriang had to make them in one night. He built a lake. With a dawn just
moment away and the boat was almost complete. Dayang Sumbi had to stop it.
Then, she lit up the eastern horizon with flashes of light. It made the cock
crowed for a new day.
Sangkuriang failed to marry her. She was very angry and
kicked the boat. It felt over and became the mountain of Tangkuban Perahu
Bandung.
The Smart Monkey And The Stupid Crocodile
One day there was a monkey. He wanted to cross a river. There
he saw a crocodile so he asked the crocodile to take him across the other side
of the river. The crocodile agree and told the monkey to jump on its back. Then
the crocodile swam down the river with the monkey on his top.
Unluckily, the crocodile was very hungry, he stopped in the
middle of the river and said to the monkey, “My father is very sick. He has to
eat the heart of the monkey. So he will be healthy again.”
At the time, the monkey was in dangerous situation and he had
to think hard. Then he had a good idea. He told the crocodile to swim back to
the river bank. “What’s for?” asked the crocodile. “Because I don’t bring my
heart,” said the monkey. “I left it under a tree, near some coconuts in the
river bank.”
The crocodile agreed and turned around. He swam back to the
bank of the river. As soon as they reached the river bank, the monkey jumped
off the crocodile’s back. Then he climbed up to the top of a tree.
“Where is your heart?” asked the crocodile. “You are
foolish,” said the monkey to the crocodile. “Now I am free and I have my
heart.”
Aji Saka and Dewata Cengkar
Many, many years ago, the kingdom of Medangkamulan was ruled
by a king named Dewata-chengkar. This king had a strange and frightening habit.
He liked to eat human beings.
One day, a young traveler arrived in the kingdom.He was called
Ajisaka. Ajisaka took shelter in the house of a widow who quickly came to look
upon the young man as her own son. When he heard of the king’s strange
appetite, Ajisaka sympathized with the villagers’ plight and immediately
volunteered to become the king’s next meal.
Ajisaka went directly to the king’s palace.“I am willing to
be your next meal. Your Highnees. However, I have a request.“ said Aji Saka to
the king. “Whatever you please, young man, I will grant your request,“ the king
replied. “Before you eat me, grant me some land. Just enough length of my own
headcloth.“ continued Aji Saka. “Come, Young Man. Let’s measure your headcloth
so that I can have my meal and you can have your land“ agreed the king.
Ajisaka began to unwrap the cloth tied around his head. The
king got down from his throne and hold one end of the headcloth. He stepped
backward. What he didn’t know was that this headcloth was much longer. The king
kept going backward, step by step, as the cloth kept unraveling. He stepped
backward through the palace square, backward across the village, holding the
end of Ajisaka’s headcloth. The king kept stepping backward until reached the
sea cliftts of the sea.
A great crowd of people had gathered. They held their breath
as their king took his final step backward over the cliff’s edge and plunged
into the waves crashing againts the rocks at the foot of the sea wall.
The Little Mouse
Once upon a time there was a Baby Mouse and Mother Mouse.
They lived in a hole in the a big warm house with lots of cheese to eat.
Then, one day, Mother Mouse decided to take Baby Mouse
outside of their home. Waiting outside for them was a huge ginger tomcat,
licking it’s lips and waiting to eat them both up.
“Mother, Mother! What should we do?” Cried Baby Mouse,
clinging to his mother’s tail. Mother Mouse paused, staring up into the beady
eyes of the hungry cat. But she wasn’t scared, because she knew exactly how to
deal with big, scary cats. She opened her mouth and took in a deep breath.
“Woof! Woof! Bark bark bark!” She shouted, and the cat ran
away as fast as he could.
“Wow, Mother! That was amazing!” Baby Mouse said to his
mother, smiling happily.
“And that, my child, is why it is always best to have a
second language.”
The Silent Love
There was once a man who was very much in love with a girl.
This man is very romantic. The man folded 1,000 pieces of paper cranes as a
gift to his girl. Although he was just a small executive in his company, they
were very happy together.
One day, his girl told him she was going to Paris and would
never come back. She also told him that she could visualize any bright future for both of them,
so let’s go their own ways . The man
then was heartbroken but he agreed.
One day he regained his confidence. He worked hard day and
night, just to make something out of himself. Finally with all these hard work
and the help of his friends, theman had set up his own company. “You never fail
until you stop trying.”, that was what he always told himself, “I must make it
in life!”
One rainy day, when the man was driving, he saw an elderly
couple sharing an umbrella in the rain walking to some destination. It didn’t
take him long to realize that those were his ex-girlfriend’s parents. He drove
slowly beside the couple. He wanted them to see him in his luxury car. He
wanted them to know that he wasn’t the same one anymore.
The couple was walking towards a cemetery. Following them,
the man got out of his car. There, he saw his ex-girlfriend, a photograph of
her smiling sweetly. He saw his precious paper cranes in a bottle placed beside
her tomb.
The couple saw him.
The man walked over and asked them why this had happened. They explained that
their daughter did not leave for France. She was stricken ill with cancer. She had believed that he would make it someday,
but she did not want her illness to be his obstacle. Therefore she had chosen
to leave him.
His daughter had wanted her parents to put his paper cranes
beside her. If the day came, when fate brings him to her again, he could take
some of those paper cranes back with him. The man just wept.
Elisa Day
In medieval Europe, lived a young woman named Elisa to behold
the beauty of the Day, which is described as a beautiful rose. One day, a young
man comes to town and immediately fell in love with Elisa. They later dated for
three days.
On the first day, the man visited the House of Elisha. The
second day, he sang Elisa sprig of red roses and asked her to meet him in where
the wild roses grow. On the third day, he brought Elisa to the river where he
later killed him.
The man was killed by Elisha blacking rock into the girl’s
head and whispered “all beauty must die”. Some people claim to have seen the
ghostly figure of Elisha who roam the River, blood seems to flow on the side of
his head while holding a sprig of roses in her hand.
